2005 I collected seed from various bushes and scattered them where I would like some more mountain mahogany bushes. I tried laying some on top of the ground, some lightly buried, and some dropped as if they came off the bush. None seemed to germinate.
2008 This image shows mountain mahogany seeds. One thing I learned the hard way is that the end attached to the bush in this image is very sharp and hard. I collected some mountain mahogany seeds once and put them in my shorts pocket. Those darn seeds worked their way through the shorts material and scratched and irritated my leg. I won't do that again.
No experience.
2005 I transplanted a small mountain mahogany plant to my big rock garden. It lived for 3 years and then disappeared.
2008 We have a lot of small mountain mahogany bushes, like the one in this image, scattered all around.
2008 I did not collect any mountain mahogany seed this year. But, hopefully there will still be plenty of small mountain mahogany bushes around next year and I will try transplanting one or two.
