Juniperus communis subsp. alpinas

Seed

2005  I collected some seeds from various bushes and planted them around our property. As far as I could tell, none germinated.

2008  This image shows common juniper seeds. We did not have many seeds this year, probably due to the late summer drought.

Cutting

No experience.

Transplant

2002  I found a small common juniper growing under our outdoor stairs. Since this was not a good place for it, I transplanted it to the rock garden along our side driveway.

2008  The above image shows the common juniper bush that I transplanted in early June. It sure looked like it was growing well.

This image shows the same transplanted common juniper bush in late August. It died in the late summer drought. I wonder why, since it had been stayed alive for 6 years and was mulched with rocks.

Future Plans

2008  I did not collect any seeds this year simply because there were not many produced. I would like to try growing common juniper again from seed, probably germinating them indoors this time.
